Separation, Divorce and Post-Separation Support

Practical and emotional support before, during and after separation.

Deciding that a relationship is over doesn't necessarily make what happens next any easier.

There may be difficult conversations to have, financial information to gather, solicitors to deal with, decisions about children and living arrangements to make, and an enormous amount of uncertainty about what life will look like afterwards.

And if you are separating from someone who is controlling, high-conflict or abusive then separation may not end the difficult behaviour.

In some circumstances, it can intensify or change form.

I offer practical and emotional coaching to help you understand what is happening, prepare carefully, communicate more effectively where it is safe and appropriate to do so, and make clearer decisions throughout the process.

You don't have to navigate it all on your own.

Support at Every Stage

Preparing to Separate

If you have decided to leave, particularly where your partner has been controlling or unpredictable, preparing before announcing your decision can be important.

Together, we can think through what you may need practically and emotionally, including your support network, important documents, finances, communication, children and professional advice.

Where there are concerns about coercive control or domestic abuse, your safety comes first.

Coaching does not replace specialist domestic abuse, legal or safeguarding support, and I will encourage you to involve the appropriate professionals where needed.

The aim is to help you feel more informed and prepared before taking your next steps.

Not Sure Whether You're Ready to Separate?

You don't need to be.

If you're still asking yourself whether the relationship can change, whether you're expecting too much or whether you should stay or leave, my Should I Stay or Should I Go? Framework is designed for that earlier stage.

It gives you a structured way to understand what is happening, explore communication, language and conditioning, needs and boundaries, recognise healthy and unhealthy relationship dynamics and become clearer about what would need to change for you to stay.

I won't tell you whether to leave. I'll help you understand your relationship clearly enough to make your own decision.

During Separation & Divorce

Separation can be overwhelming because you are expected to make important decisions at precisely the time you may feel least able to make them.

I can help you organise your thoughts, prepare for conversations and professional meetings, understand what needs your attention and separate the emotional issues from the practical decisions that need to be made.

Support may include:

Preparing for meetings - getting clear about your questions, priorities and concerns before speaking to solicitors, mediators or other professionals.

Communication - helping you draft clear, considered communication and decide when a response is actually necessary.

Boundaries - establishing what you will and won't engage with and reducing the pressure to continually explain or defend yourself.

Children and co-parenting - thinking through communication, parenting arrangements and how to support your children without placing them in the middle.

Emotional support - having somewhere to process what is happening so that fear, anger or overwhelm do not have to drive every decision.

Making Better Use of Your Legal and Professional Support

Solicitors, mediators and financial professionals have essential roles during divorce, but their time can be expensive.

Divorce coaching is not a substitute for legal or financial advice. Instead, I work alongside those professionals, helping you arrive at meetings better prepared, clearer about what you need to ask and more able to separate the legal issues from the emotional ones.

Having somewhere else to work through difficult messages, organise your thoughts, prepare questions and manage the emotional impact of the process can also help you avoid using solicitor time for matters that do not require legal expertise.

This can mean more focused communication, better use of your professional team and, in some cases, fewer unnecessary professional costs.

The aim isn't simply to get through your divorce. It is to help you navigate it with greater clarity, confidence and control while making thoughtful use of the professional support available to you.

Divorce coaching sits alongside, not instead of, legal and financial advice.

Part of my role is helping you identify what needs to go to your solicitor or financial adviser and what can be worked through in coaching, so you can use your professional support effectively.

Divorce coaching doesn't replace your solicitor. It can help you use your solicitor more effectively.

Post-Separation Abuse & Difficult Dynamics

Sometimes the relationship ends, but the behaviour doesn't.

For some women, separation brings relief. For others, controlling or abusive behaviour continues after the relationship has ended. It may show up through repeated communication, intimidation, financial control, use of legal processes, parenting arrangements, threats, harassment or attempts to continue exerting control.

This can be particularly confusing when you are being told that you should simply “move on” because the relationship is over.

I can help you recognise patterns of post-separation behaviour, strengthen boundaries and think more strategically about communication and ongoing contact.

Depending on your circumstances, we may explore approaches such as low contact, structured communication, grey or yellow rock and parallel rather than conventional co-parenting.

Where abuse or safety concerns are present, the priority is not improving the relationship or becoming a “better communicator”.

It is finding appropriate ways to protect your wellbeing and access the specialist, legal or safeguarding support you may need.

Finding Yourself Again

Separation isn't only about ending a relationship.

For many women, it also means discovering who they are after years of putting everybody else's needs before their own.

You may be grieving the relationship, the family life you thought you would have or simply the version of yourself you used to be.

Coaching gives you space to begin asking different questions:

What do I need now?

What are my boundaries?

What do I want my life to feel like?

What have I learned about relationships?

What do I want to take forward and what am I ready to leave behind?

The aim isn't to rush you into your “new life”. It is to help you rebuild confidence and self-trust at your own pace.

Blended Families & Life After Divorce

New relationships and blended families can bring enormous happiness, but they can also create a completely new set of dynamics.

As part of a blended family of seven myself, I understand some of the complexities of bringing different family systems, parenting styles, histories and expectations together.

I can support you with boundaries, communication, expectations and navigating the different relationships within a blended family while recognising that everyone's needs and experiences may be different.
